[CTRL] governed

Control without complexity

Systems that give people the access they need, and no more.

Why Control Matters

When a business is small, everyone can do everything, and it works because everyone knows everyone. As it grows, that becomes a risk: too many people can change prices, nobody knows who edited the website, and former staff still have logins.

Good control is about clarity, not restriction. Each person sees the parts they use, changes are recorded, and the risky actions need a second look.

What We Mean by Control

Clear permissions

Set by role, easy to change.

Audit trails

Every change recorded.

Role-based access

Staff, managers and customers each get their own view.

Safe defaults

Risky actions need confirming.

Visibility of change

See what changed today, and undo it if needed.

Who It Suits and What It Costs

Businesses with several people working in the same system, organisations that handle personal data, and anyone preparing for Cyber Essentials, which asks who has admin access. Work here is usually part of a larger system and is quoted with it, and you get the price before we start.

Common Questions

We have a small team. Do we need this?

Probably not much of it yet. Separate logins for each person and switching off leavers is the minimum worth having.

Can you add this to a system we already use?

Often, yes. We’ll look first and tell you what is possible.

What does an audit trail actually record?

Who changed something, when, and what it was before and after. If a price or a customer record is wrong, you can see how it got that way and put it back.

Does more control mean more admin?

It shouldn’t. Done well, permissions are set once per role, and new staff get the right access by being given the right role.
